Hello future Capoeiristas, I am Instrutora Ratinha, a passionate Capoeira teacher and also a veteran secondary school teacher. For many years my goal has been to bring Capoeira into schools. Why you may ask! Capoeira is more than just a martial art. Capoeira is a powerful blend of movement (sport), music and culture and history. 
 

In a school setting, capoeira offers a unique opportunity to engage students physically, mentally, and socially. It teaches discipline, respect, creativity, and resilience, which can boost confidence in students who may not always thrive in (traditional) sports. The trainings with Capoeira op School: The capoeira trainings are very playful and dynamic. In class students practice movements like kicks, dodges, and acrobatics. Music is always an essential part of the training too. Students learn to play traditional instruments like the berimbau, pandeiro (tambourine), and atabaque (drum). We sing songs in Portuguese, which help tell the story and history of capoeira and even teach students a bit of the Portuguese language. 
 

The music provides the energy for the movements. Trainings also include playing inside the roda, the most exciting part of Capoeira, where students demonstrate what they have learned during the training in a lively circle. By bringing capoeira to you, it is not just teaching kicks, acrobatics and songs.
