Club: Bricks Fun (Formely Young Engineers) (Group 3-7): Class 1
Cost: €323.00
The Bricks Fun - Machine Builders program (designed by Tektokids®) teaches students between 6 and 11 years of age basic math, physics, and engineering with motorized LEGO®. By building machines and constructions from LEGO®, the students become familiar with technical and physical principles and see them physically working in the built models. The models connect to various themes that we will cover during a series of lessons, such as forces, balance and different forms of energy. The students become familiar with basic mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulleys, wheels and axles and investigate and test the various applications. We challenge the children to improve the models according to their own insights and to investigate the possibilities of the materials and knowledge offered. This investigative and designing way of learning appeals to problem-solving thinking, creativity and more 21st century skills.
Objectives
+ Investigate various physical phenomena such as force and movement
+ Develop motor skills
+ Develop spatial insight
+ Follow a working drawing step by step
+ Apply technical principles
+ Explore various forms of energy
+ Investigate constructions that provide stability and strength
+ Learn to apply found solutions in other situations
+ Increase sense of competence
+ Review the process and evaluate

Capoeira (Group 1-3)
3:15 PM - 4:30 PM
September 25 - February 12
Club: Capoeira (Group 1-3)
Cost: €224.00
Hello future Capoeiristas, I am Instrutora Ratinha, a passionate Capoeira teacher and also a veteran secondary school teacher. For many years my goal has been to bring Capoeira into schools. Why you may ask! Capoeira is more than just a martial art. Capoeira is a powerful blend of movement (sport), music and culture and history.
In a school setting, capoeira offers a unique opportunity to engage students physically, mentally, and socially. It teaches discipline, respect, creativity, and resilience, which can boost confidence in students who may not always thrive in (traditional) sports. The trainings with Capoeira op School: The capoeira trainings are very playful and dynamic. In class students practice movements like kicks, dodges, and acrobatics. Music is always an essential part of the training too. Students learn to play traditional instruments like the berimbau, pandeiro (tambourine), and atabaque (drum). We sing songs in Portuguese, which help tell the story and history of capoeira and even teach students a bit of the Portuguese language.
The music provides the energy for the movements. Trainings also include playing inside the roda, the most exciting part of Capoeira, where students demonstrate what they have learned during the training in a lively circle. By bringing capoeira to you, it is not just teaching kicks, acrobatics and songs. The goal is to help students express themselves in a positive and creative way and to have a lot of fun while doing it! “Let’s keep moving, learning, and growing together” Axé, Instrutora Ratinha

Drama (Group 5-7)
3:15 PM - 5:00 PM
September 25 - February 12
Club: Drama (Group 5-7)
Cost: €332.00
Thursday Drama club at Sandcastle Campus builds strong foundations in acting, musical theatre and stagecraft.
This term, students will work on developing their chore performance skills. The class will draw on the improv theatre techniques of Second City in Chicago and teach students how to work as a team, think on their feet and develop grounded and compelling scenes and characters.
Children will learn object work, stage dynamics and how to ultimately build a play from the ground up. The class adopts a playful, but structured approach. Children develop an understanding of how to perform and communicate ideas and stories, through language movement and song to an audience. The class also teaches your child the value of teamwork and how to support each other in a scene. The lessons involve components of musical theatre and your children will already learn the songs and choreography that eventually appear in the performance at the end of term 1.The club leader, Rachel. Stewart has extensive experience as a writer, director and coach of children's theatre, she is also a seasoned performer and improviser herself.
Rachel founded the Active children's theatre group 11 years ago and has since mounted around thirty children's performances in theatres around Amsterdam. Rachel places great emphasis on developing each child, ultimately even writing parts that extend and challenge them, while playing to their strengths. The Shows that the children perform in term 2, are mostly written by Rachel, and are tailored to every child's ability level. Rachel and her production team offer a tailor made approach to children's theatre.

Film Crew Club (Group 4-7)
3:15 PM - 4:30 PM
September 25 - February 12
Club: Film Crew Club (Group 4-7)
Cost: €358.00
Over the last 10 years, the media landscape has changed dramatically. Social media apps and filmmaking tools have become a fundamental part of our digital lives. Young people learn, socialize, explore their identities and engage with the world using their screens. In response to these developments, Film Crew Club offers hands-on classes in which we work with cameras, iPads and smartphones to explore animation and live action filmmaking. Students get a chance to act, direct, script, film, animate, edit and create special effects in a wide range of media formats. We edit the material created in class and screen final films each week to students. This creates a dynamic feedback loop that empowers both learning and engagement.
Our classes include history lessons that teach students how our media systems have evolved as well as game based exercises in which children are encouraged to ask: who made this? For whom? What messages are being conveyed? How does it make me feel?
Playful, dialogical approaches to these discussions help to engage and empower children. By making and viewing media together, students learn, first hand, how to look at it critically as well as how to engage with it safely and ethically.
