Thursday Drama club at Sandcastle  builds strong foundations in acting, musical theatre and stagecraft. This term, students will work on developing their core performance skills by bringing a play from the page to the stage.   In term two, the children work on a scripted production of Mother Goose. The show is a musical, which explores what happens to kindly mother Goose when her goose one day lays a golden egg.     

The play tracks her shift in values as she becomes increasingly obsessed by materialism, before rediscovering her core values as a kind hearted and family orientated woman.Term two is intended as a progression from the lessons learned in term one and the children will have the opportunity to perform the show in a theatre usually over a weekend in June. As the performance falls outside the normal lesson times listed, there is a small additional cost for theatre tickets and the dress rehearsal to cover theatre hire and costumes for those children joining the final performance. 

The club leader, Rachel. Stewart has extensive experience as a writer, director and coach of children's theatre,  she is also a seasoned performer and improviser herself. Rachel founded the Active children's theatre group 11  years ago and has since mounted around thirty children's performances in theatres around Amsterdam. Rachel places great emphasis on developing each child, ultimately even writing parts that extend and challenge them, while playing to their strengths. The Shows that the children perform in term 2, are written by Rachel, and are tailored to every child's ability level. Over the last 10 years, the media landscape has changed dramatically. Social media apps and filmmaking tools have become a fundamental part of our digital lives. Young people learn, socialize, explore their identities and engage with the world using their screens. In response to these developments, Film Crew Club offers hands-on classes in which we work with cameras, iPads and smartphones to explore animation and live action filmmaking. Students get a chance to act, direct, script, film, animate, edit and create special effects in a wide range of media formats. We edit the material created in class and screen final films each week to students. This creates a dynamic feedback loop that empowers both learning and engagement.

Our classes include history lessons that teach students how our media systems have evolved as well as game based exercises in which children are encouraged to ask: who made this? For whom? What messages are being conveyed? How does it make me feel? 
Playful, dialogical approaches to these discussions help to engage and empower children. By making and viewing media together, students learn, first hand, how to look at it critically as well as how to engage with it safely and ethically.

Little Artists Ceramics Workshop : Make your own home Ceramics !

In this hands-on workshop, children get the chance to create their own cup, ceramic tea or coffee set, plate or small vase using clay.

The clay will be baked which makes it a sustainable object for use at home. They can paint and decorate their piece just the way they like, inspired on beautiful objects from art history.

Working with clay is a calming and tactile way to express ideas and emotions. It gives a sense of creative freedom and helps children feel focused and present. 
At the end of the workshop, children will go home with something beautiful and handmade to be proud of.
